“We’re All Mad Here. I’m Mad. You’re Mad.”

Can not WAIT for the latest film adaptation of “Alice in Wonderland” coming from Disney next spring (March 5th, 2010). I have always loved the story, and to think that it’s getting such a cool overhaul makes me just giddy. Tim Burton’s slightly twisted wonderland will be in Disney Digital 3D, and stars newcomer 19-year-old unknown Mia Wasikowska from Australia. There were photos released to the press today, and just looking at Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter makes me dizzy. (He surely got the “Mad” part down!) Of course who can doubt that Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen weren’t perfect choices! Sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and one that should become an instant classic. Looking forward to a peek down the rabbit hole!

Roary: toy-friendly kid-show from the UK

Roary the Racing CarSure, maybe Thomas only creates new episodes after they’ve got the toy molds for the new characters and scenarios already complete, but Roary the Racing Car seems poised to have even more toy-tie-in potential than the venerable little blue engine.

What’s Roary, you ask? It’s a show that doesn’t seem to have hit the US yet, but was produced in cooperation with Nickelodeon UK, so no doubt it’ll find its way to our shores soon enough. It looks like Bob the Builder meets Postman Pat, stylistically, with some fairly cheesy computer-generated smoke, etc. effects added on top. The main character is Roary, a little red race car with parallels to Thomas’ personality, but don’t worry, there’s lots of other types of vehicles (scooter, Mini, Formula 1, pickup, helicopter…) for each personality type to latch onto and demand the corresponding toy for :-)

If the eventual toys sing the annoying theme song that sounds like a bad clean version of ‘Danny Boy’, I’m removing the batteries from them… while they’re still in the stores
