P's Relationships - Inspirations & Influences 2001-2016

What people/person, female or male, that had a relationship with Prince from 2001-16 do you think inspired/influenced him?
The kind of love that takes over your body, mind, & soul

Well I started watching Prince closely in late 2008. To me the person(s) that seemed to effect him the most was Esperanza Spalding/ Andy Allo. It was clear that in 2009/ 2010 he was quite taken with the style of Esperanza Spalding and he had had a very definite personal style of his own that he had been working for a decade. He was a little dandy with fitted suits and straightened hair.

Then came hippy dippy Esperanza and his personal style changed drastically. He started being around Andy Allo (it is doubtful that Esperanza would have spent the time with him that Andy did in 2010). After that came Third-Eye-Girl and just the name is an occult reference that doesn't work with his previious " I am a devoted Jehovah Witness" stance. His hair grew long (not approved by Jehovah Witnesses) and he changed.

Not since Larry Graham came into his life do I see where one person made a huge difference in the direction that Prince"s style went in.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Yes, after 2010 I like his more hippie, rock n roll, fringe style with all the girls mentioned above. He seemed to be having a great time with his new vibe and music. Always a great showman thru all the decades, but his last 7+ cool years ...GOAT!

Yes it’s almost like he returned in a way to his Woodstock-like late 60’s early 70’s upbringing in North Minneapolis with all the studs that were older than him who had such influence on his coolness.

I may be wrong but from the end of Rave, when it seemed that Larry came on board fully, until the Hippie look, there were no drastic changes that point to one person. I don't feel like Shelby J, Bria, or even Marva King changed his music or style drastically.

There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

IMO, Andy A may have inspired his return to the natural look (afro) and some fashion choices, but she would not have been a significant influence musically or lyrically.

I agree Peggy. P liked the AA look and style. Seemed then he began wearing Afro and fringe. Albeit, AA was way toooo young in the musical world to influence the talents of P. Seems she was to silly most times.

I don't think she was silly, she seemed mature for her age. But I thought that they matched in a romantic way.

She was pretty and I think, though she was not on his level, they seemed to enjoy songwriting.

I think Misty Copeland was an exciting influence for him...more of an artistic peer.

The other thing about Andy, and I’m just going to say it because others have alluded to it as well, is that while I feel for her along with all
The others including us who’ve lost Prince, she’s been manipulative.
I have been beyond irked for a very long time.
She doesn’t come out and say anything because as we’re learning from Piepenbring, Prince knew the “value” of not telling everyone everything. But she says a lot with pictures and certain words. This is highly manipulative, it is nothing else, And I’ve known for a long time she’s trying to be exactly like Prince.
Also, her social media is all about her looks and how she is ascertaining to become a star. How boring.
The “revolution” we need right now is not about selfishness; it’s about unity. Hopefully she will grow into this.
[Edited 10/29/19 8:57am]

Well, I don't follow her (nor anyone else Prince related) so I don't know her.

But I must say, Hardrocklover is about AA. I remember an interview she did after Prince's death and they asked her something about kissing Prince and she became embarrassed and avoided the question or something. That kind of brought the song to mind.

But everybody love that song, myself included. 🎧

"I sent him a selfie one day, and he then stole my selfie and used it as the cover for his single," the former Today host explained. "I woke up the next morning, and people were like, 'You're all over the internet. You're on the cover of Prince's song 'If Eye Could Get Ur Attention.'"

Yeah that. Seems AA was/is an opportunist for her own gain. She didn't stick around long with Prince, NPG or with friends of Prince. One and done ....maybe?
