Idk if this was stated before but I'm speculating that Possessed is the vocal version of the instrumental we got a while back (I saw 7:56 as the track time, similar to the instrumental) and wonderful ass is the full version of the 2 minute snippet we got in Work it 2.0

So I compiled the prices I found for different retailers. I didn't find much at Walmart, and I wonder if it'd be edited anyway. I did buy PR in a digipak a few years ago there. I don't think it was edited. Not sure. Anyway, here's what I found. If you have one to add, let me know in an Org note.

If you can find it on a site, Org note me a link. I couldn't find the 3 disk on there. I made that list just an hour ago.

I ordered the 3 CDs/1 DVD set. I'm thinking about getting the vinyl also but can't make up my mind if I want to get the picture disc vinyl or not.
How many of you are gonna get the purple rain album on vinyl?

I'll get the vinyl, but often times picture disks are more of a gimmick than anything. They don't always have the same sound quality a regular vinyl would. The acetate is a different quality is not as great, and the sound suffers. (Colored vinyl quality varies.) If you're going to get vinyl, get the regular black vinyl.

I pre-ordered the 3 CD's/1 DVD from Amazon, I'm annoyed that it didn't come with auto rip like with others CD's I bought from them, so I also pre-ordered from ITunes. I do want the vinyl and picture disc as well, but I'm thinking I need to calm down, lol lol

Okay I get why 17 Days and Erotic City are on the deluxe release ( b- sides ) However the 1984 original album was called Music from Purple Rain, so in my opinion the deluxe edition should include Sex Shooter, The Bird, Jungle Love and Modernairre.

It would have been interesting to hear his versions of those songs on the album, but they're still really someone else's songs in another way. "Jungle Love" is a Jesse song anyway. Jesse recently put his home demo tape of "Jungle Love" on Facebook. He talked about how Prince and he were in the car, and he played the tape. It blew Prince's mind, and they went to finish the song soon after.

The album also said "Music from Prince's motion picture debut", and it wasn't credited to anyone except Prince and the Revolution. Graffiti Bridge was a more proper 'soundtrack' than Purple Rain was and I'm glad it turned out that way.

Lastly, depending on when some of those other songs were written, they could end up on a 1999 remaster. But eh. It is what it is at this point.

Why couldn't you just rip the Amazon set once you receive it? I can't see throwing away another $20 if you don't have to.

That was my thought, too. Why would you pay for it twice? You own it once you have the physical CD. Even if your computer doesn't have an optical drive (like Macbook Air, etc.) you could still torrent that shit in lossless and do with it what you will.

I'm ripping mine to 432Hz lossless.

Luvgirl - skip the picture disk. The sound quality isn't worth it. And while it's your call, to spend te money simply for the sake of collecting if you aren't a pic disk collector, I'd say skip it. Just my ¢¢.

Luvgirl, I strongly recommend cancelling the ITunes order and waiting until we get closer to the release date. If you have Prime, there's a strong possibility that the MP3 (autorip) version of the album could hit your library the day before (possibly earlier).

Sorry, but you mean pitch-shifting it to A4=432Hz perhaps? (Though I don't know why you'd do that, but I just can't think of anything else.)

No, I don't mean pitch shift. I don't want it dragging or sounding slowed down or whatever. You readjust the frequency for 432Hz, but you also have it keep the time & pitch. Even Prince once said "encode your music to 432Hz". I use Adobe Audition to do it, and it comes out perfect.

I had no idea what y'all were talking about, but since you said P said it I had to know what it meant so I Googled and guess what?

What is 432 Hz tuning?

A=432 Hz, known as Verdi’s ‘A’ is an alternative tuning that is mathematically consistent with the universe. Music based on 432Hz transmits beneficial healing energy, because it is a pure tone of math fundamental to nature.

https://attunedvibrations.com/432hz/

tinkerbell music P was so magical.

So you ARE pitch-shifting it. If you are retuning it to A=432Hz, then you're changing the pitch.

I do know why some musicians are tuning THEIR INSTRUMENTS to A=432Hz (and some are tuning to 442, some to 443 or whatever else) for playing or recording – but why on Earth would you want to CHANGE a recording that was made with instruments tuned to A=440Hz to anything else is waaay beyond me...

First of all, as I said, you are actually altering what's already been recorded. Secondly, you are degrading sound quality by reprocessing it, no matter what software you're using. (No matter how little the change, the entire file will be reprocessed within the software and you are degrading the quality.) Especially since (by ripping a CD) you're using a 16bit file as a source, which just makes it even worse.

I'm sorry, but this is a totally insane idea.

Modern digital software can indeed set it to A432 without adjusting the tempo/speed, but you're still shifting the pitch down 8Hz.
It's also pretty stunning software plugins can do the opposites, speed up or down a track without adjusting the pitch. It adds or removes microsecond splices. Amazing.

Yeah but you're f..king up quality in the process at least a little bit, and more importantly, you're changing something that wasn't played that way. By pitch-shifting a recording, you're making it sound unnatural – the bigger the shift, the more unnatural it will sound, and of course that means you're making Prince's vocals sound unnatural too.

Furthermore: recordings aren't always mastered at the correct speed, especially those that were tracked on analog tape originally. VERY often the speed of different tracks on the same album are different, because in the real world tape machines aren't always perfectly calibrated.
So if you're reprocessing an entire album master (that was originally recorded on analog tape) to pitch-shift it from A=440 to A=432Hz, you cannot even be sure that each of the songs on that album were even mastered at exactly at the perfect speed to begin with! So potentially you'll end up with A=433 or 431 or whatever and there goes your faith in being perfectly "in tune with nature"...

And let's not even talk about how Mozart, for example, have been playing the same pieces practically in different keys in concert when he was still touring, as in his age "concert pitch" didn't even exist – every city used a different reference pitch, depending on the organ they had in the church... So in those days reference pitch for 'A' varied widely, between something like 330 and 450 Hz...
And we haven't even mentioned all the different temperaments before the age of equal temperament.

It's possible that will be added later. I had an interesting experience with their customer service when I preordered the MP3 versions of AOA/PE but later found out that not only the price on the CD version dropped below the MP3 cost but they added auto-rip to the CDs.

(Thankfully they move my order over to the physical copy and refunded me the difference but I learned my lesson)

Read up on 432Hz. It's not pitch shifting if it's corrected in the encoding process. I get that just setting something at 432hz slows it down and changes the pitch. I'm not doing that. And even Prince understood what was behind it. It's not a random number or whatever to encode music at.

Just as an example: I encoded 3 albums at 432hz, and played them in the car with the roommate while out and about. He'd never made comments on these albums before but did after I played them at 432hz.

Oh man, you're mixing up so many things smile Sorry, but I'm afraid you don't know what you're talking about.

It's NOT "encoding". smile If you are changing the pitch (=pitch shifting) of a recording from A=440Hz to anything else, 432Hz for example, you ARE changing how it sounds. You are making it sound less natural. (Plus you're messing up sound quality in the process.)

My music sounds fine, so I'm good. I do know what I'm doing, and it's quite nice. Granted it takes a while in Audition but it's worth it. There are great tutorials on YouTube about it, too. Thanks, though.
