Listening now, really like this. Hadn't heard any other versions of this song so it's completely new to me.

RIP sad

I still have to listen to it, but I'm happy to know that the "something big is coming" will be studio material and not live recordings.

His vocals remind me a little of Patti Labelle's on this.

This has got me more excited about expecting the Unexpected.

I'm hoping for the full Cool Love and Telepathy.

I like this very much! And the sound quality is amazing - If the set that's supposed to be part of is this good, bring it on!

i like his version. He was really trying to replicate Sheenas voice in showing how he wants her to sing it. I think Sheena knocked it out the park though and it was really meant for her.

I can't believe how many people havent heard this song before, its like..damn what other Prince productions you missing out on? lol.

Download all the shit hop that you can for your kids, neices, nephews, and their friends also. That will prevent them from going out and buying it and will prevent some shit hop sales. Every little bit helps - Andy

Previously unheard Prince track, 101, from the upcoming set from Eye Records has been leaked in some of the usual places...

Excellent and highly atmospheric, this is top-drawer Prince.

Wonderful song! If this is what Eye is offering--I'm in like Flynn!

I've never heard it before either but aside from The Time, Sheila E and The Family, I was never too interested in the songs he gave away because of the ones I have heard, I don't like them. I do like this one though.

An amazing freebie. What an awesome project this would be for the estate…a compilation of Prince's versions of songs he gave away. Such a shame they are an incredible mess.

What a nice surprise from Eye.

please let there be prince vocal versions of "interesting", "jaguar" and "time waits 4 no one" pray

a set like that could be an alternate greatest hits package. there's so many great songs he gave to
other people. both early in his career and later.

i'm guessing the estate won't say no to something like this later on, let's just give them a year or
two more to start rolling out some plans. i'm still hopefull they have the best intentions with the
music, they're just bogged down in shenanigans right now. let's hope those will pass.

I think 101 is one of the best songs ever written. I really do. Its different, its hauting. I like sheena's version better, but its better produced. This version out is lije a demo, but im really glad im hearing Prince his version. He really was an amazing song writer.

So true, especially with the first two albums by The Time. They're not even what I'd call an associated artist's set of albums - just P and Morris, and so much fun.

This is what I am talkin' bout! Stuff we have never heard, stuff we had no idea existed.

Bring it on!

Maybe all the stuff he did for Sheena is on there. Cool Love already circulating.

This definitely sounds like a vocal guide version versus a song that he recorded and just put in the fault. This song was clearly intended for Sheena at creation, he is singing the song as wants Sheena to sing it.

In a 2012 interview, Sheena Easton discussed the song's recording:
"When you work with Prince, he's one of those kind of guys that likes to keep you off guard. You'd get the phone call saying 'Hey, come down to the studio. There's something I'd want you to hear.' Then you'd get down there, like with 101 and he'd play it and I'd be like, 'I don't know' and he'd say, 'Well, just go and sit and listen to it a little bit.' I'd go and he'd come right in and say, 'Let's go.' 'But I don't know it completely,' [I'd say]. 'Well just sing what you know, then,' [he'd say]. There's this part in there where I kinda go off-melody and I just start taking higher and higher and he says, 'Well, that's not the right melody but we're keeping that and we're gonna work with that.' And so it's one of those things that's really organic - just a great moment in the studio. Plus I like the production. I love the subway doors opening and closing. He wanted it to be very haunting, and to just be about the desperation in the voice - [and] about the concept of you being away from this person for forever, it seems, and you just can't bear it for one more night."

Yes, I agree with you 99% - but now imagine the first two albums by The Time with Prince's vocals...
