If Amiir Had Lived...

In 1997 Prince was in a more peaceful, appreciative place, free from the WB contract, married to Mayte, a son on the way. Because many have opined that the loss of his son was a turning point in Prince’s career, his religiosity and personal evolution…how would things have been different had Amiir lived? Would Prince have been fulfilled and completed ? Would he have stopped being in the studio 20 hours a day? Would he have truly become a ‘married man’? Would his music been different? Would the shared adoration of this child (healthy OR fragile) brought Prince and Mayte closer and served to re-prioritize things in Prince’s life?

Let this be a reflective discussion on the man Prince's life.
Don't let this become another Mayte pro/con debate.

He would be turning 21 this year, and I'd like to think that he would have already put out his first album on NPG records, and in his first music video he would have bellydanced biggrin .

If he was anything like his Pops, he prolly would have released it about 15/16 and would prolly be on like record number 5 already.... Damn!

Prince, on the other hand i believe would have matured by having a kid as one does, but I don't believe he would have adhered to the strict dogma of JW. He would have stayed an astral child freethinking freespirit. Who knows? Maybe they might have put out a collab album out together.... neutral ain't life a bitch sometimes?

disbelief

I mean if he did have sex he would break every rule Jehova's have regarding premarital sex so Prince is really just friends with them all anyway.

Amir means Prince in Arabic. That's where it comes from. It's a great name.

Boy Gregory sounds like his Princed alias.

I wonder if there is a song in the vault titled that

What's the matter with your life
Is poverty bringing U down?
Is the mailman jerking U 'round?
Did he put your million dollar check
In someone else's box?
Tell me, what's the matter with your world

He'd of had to go through a bout of rebelliousness, he'd of been an accountant. I'm really trying to come up with how would a teen rebel against Prince. It's a toughy. Become a record company executive. shrug

I don't think he'd have been vulnerable to Grahamism.
If Amiir had lived, there likely would have been other children.
I truly believe the childlike, gullible part of him made him vulnerable to predators.

I hope you are joking. Boy Gregory was an alias and Ahmir means Prince in Arabic.

What is wrong with Arabic. Do you have any idea how many African Americans have Arabic names.

In her book she explains that it was the name of one of her favourite dancers. When she was pregnant prince hypnotised her and asked her what their child should be called, and she answered Ahmir while she was under. I'll ignore comments about it sounding 'middle eastern', deary me.

She is a beautiful and loving soul, and went through so much, it's heartbreaking. Nothing but love for her. And who knows what Ahmir would've been - as all parents you would just hope that he was loved and he was happy. Anything you else is a bonus!

For those who have never had children, when a baby is born it is listed under the sex and maiden name of the child's mother. 'Boy Gregory' is the sex and last name of Mayte is Garcia so they changed it to Gregory to protect them from the media. Boy Gregory is not a Prince alias for baby Amir it's just a name given at the hospital.

It's because Mayte checked in under the surname Gregory and had a baby boy. If the child is not named at the time of birth then they are called boy/girl and the mothers surname. So if Jenny Smith had a boy and it didn't have a name yet, it would be known as boy Smith.

RIP sad

Mayte explains in her book (as noted above) that Boy Gregory was just the hospital convention and was on Amiir's name tag/wristband. A pap saw it and assumed it was his name and that's how the rumour started. It still hurts her when she hears people use that name.

Amiir (generally spelt Emir in English) can mean local chief, ruler etc. this is where the term Emirates comes from in the UAE. It's like saying a untied group of local Arab Kingdoms.

Don't let this become another Mayte pro/con debate.

Prince and Mayte would have had their differences about how to raise him because Prince was getting profoundly interested in the Jehovah's Witnesses' doctrines (scepticism toward medical treatments because humans aren't allowed to play God, not celebrating birthdays etc.) and Mayte said in her book that this was a path she could not follow no matter how hard she tried.

They probably would have stayed together longer because Mayte describes the joy and happiness she and Prince both shared during her pregnancy.

His music would have been influenced significantly: we all know that the women around him often were his musical inspiration, so imagine this happy dad who also happens to be a musical genius.

Boy Gregory isn't a name, it's a gender distinction (Boy) and the mother's given last name on the hospital forms (Gregory). They didn't use Nelson for obvious reasons of privacy.

I'm not sensitive to the drama in his life however. I will speak my mind on whom I like or don't care for. But the topic of his deceased son causing one of the most significan grief in Prince's life is an area I can't go to, personally. That is, I don't judge people who want to imagine what other path could have been there in the life of such a genius. I don't mean to criticize here smile
