The Weinstein Company interested in Prince biopic http://deadline.com/2017/...202185031/ EXCLUSIVE: I have learned that Apple has pulled the plug on an Elvis Presley biopic series from The Weinstein Company in light of the controversy that has engulfed TWC since last week’s explosive exposé about its co-founder Harvey Weinstein. The Elvis project was in very early stages, sources close to the Silicon Valley giant tell Deadline. I hear it had been set up at Apple Music a couple of months ago and predated the establishment of an Apple worldwide video division led by Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg. I hear the deal, which now has been terminated, was for an biopic series, but there was an idea to grow that into an anthology franchise with Prince and Michael Jackson eyed as subjects in subsequent installments. I hear that TWC COO David Glasser is re-engaging another network that had bid on the series when it first was taken out. Paisley Park is in your heart

I don't want a biopic on Prince yet. Not until the rest of his catalogue is out and the mystery around his death is solved. Which means we may never get a biopic which is fine with me. Biopics are often too simplistic to really encapsulate a whole life and all its complexities.

I think right at this moment everybody is shrinking away from the name Weinstein until that mess is settled. “Do I dare Disturb the universe?”

A franchise beginning with Elvis, with Michael Jackson and Prince as the only listed future subjects? Sounds to me like a series of biopics that I wouldn't want to see happen--yes, I know Prince died from a drug overdose--but couldn't they have found at least a fourth non-drug casualty to mention so we could pretend that this wasn't the primary connection between these three proposed projects.
If we ever get a Prince biopic, I hope for something better than what I suspect we would have gotten from such a series.

If we ever get a Prince biopic, I hope for something better than what I suspect we would have gotten from such a series. I must admit that wasn’t the first thing I thought of. I read somewhere else Frank Sinatra was another one they are thinking about. To me it seems like the draw is these were incredibly influential and popular artists. I’m still not sure what they would base the Prince biopic on. Unless they were able to get participation and interviews from all the people he worked with it would probably end up being terrible. . I know what you are saying, but a Prince biopic is not for us. It's not for the hardcore fans. It is for people who aren't that famiilar with Prince. I really enjoyed the movie "Ray" and it's probably because I knew very little about Ray Charles.

naw, not ready for a biopic...

Do you want a bunch of half-ass fair-weather fans hating on him for his flaws (espeically if it is a sensationalistic, brutal depiction) and not realizing the extent of his work? I would much rather see more about his music (live shows before sensationalistic biopics). Ray's life came to its natural fluition and his death isn't a mystery.

The problem is, for it to be truthful the whole film would have to be set in studio recordings. The Colors R brighter, the Bond is much tighter

When I say mystery, I mean life story stuff but whether or not he was dependent on painkillers for pain and got some bad ones illegally. . In other words, the mysteries are who enabled prince to get the pills, when did he start taking them, did he get any surgery, was he still holding off on hip replacement due to JW convictions, was LG still in his life, did his second wife know about his dependency, how much did his inner staff know about the type of pills they were procuring him, was it his 'best friend' procuring them or someone else?? Why was he alone that night? Why did Judith appear on tv the day after his overdose in L.A. What test results was he waiting for? Those are mysteries that could shed light on what kind of world P was inhabiting at the end of his life. A bio would probably not even broach that stuff in favor of P's earlier life. There are people talking abot writing bios that end at the superbowl??? Really, I hadn't realized he died in 2007.

Unless the person has passed a generation or so ago, any biopic is just a money grab.

Yep. The proper time and research is needed before a good bio will be an option. Although I think they need to start collecting info now before the sources die off.

I don't care. I don't know who those actors portrayed but Prince is different. Because he was such a private person, myths have swirled around him. A documentary would set the record straight. Using Actual footage of the man, videos, audio, it will require intense research, but he's worth it. A biopic is sloppy and campy. A documentary will Let people see in real time Prince's genius and then he'll finally be taken seriously. A biopic would cheapen his memory. FUCK DONALD TRUMP
