No. But the fact that people with limited brain capacities now have unlimited access to the internet is maybe the greatest tragedy of our times.

More and more people support the idea of boosting human intelligence with brain implants and genetic modifications as soon as science will allow it (and it's sooner than we think, we can already boost memory with implants, it's currently in trial tests for people with Alzheimer's disease).

I realize we need to have a lot of debates about it, and that it will raise many ethical and practical questions. But on principle I'm all for it nod

How did you come to that irrelevant conclusion?
Weren't we talking about the people who "feel" sorrow for people with "limited brain capabilities" and not about "people with limited brain capabilities" themselves? If you want to discuss this in this topic then at least stay with the program...

And to stay on-topic: According to WBR and people who were around back then there was never a video for "Bambi" shot nor was it ever for consideration of being a single release...

There is the Bambi video from the 1993 Paisley Park sessions though, isn't there (I've seen it - with P ripping through his guitar solo)!
.
'Bambi was re-recorded on 14 June 1993 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (along with versions of The Ride, Poorgoo, Honky Tonk Women, Zannalee, The Undertaker and Dolphin, the day before recording Calhoun Square), as part of the session for the aborted The Undertaker album released on film in 1995 as The Undertaker' (PrinceVault).

Seriously?!
Calling this rehearsal/jam version a re-recording is like calling the 100+ recorded (on audio and video) versions he did during rehearsals and concerts also a re-recording...
By that logic there are at least 50+ video's for "Bambi"...
The question was regarding a "Music Video" (you know those things they used to show on MTV?) of the original released recording on the "Prince" album...
But did this really needed to be spelled out??

The second paragraph was copied / pasted from PrinceVault (as cited) - have it out with them, if you have an issue with the term, 're-recording/ed'.
.
And yes, the 'music video' to which I am referring doesn't accompany the original track, hence my express use of the words, '1993...though...isn't there' - making it explicit that the video / film produced is a later alternative. It's a professional recording, made for an album, ergo it is slightly different to the '100+ versions he did during rehearsals and concerts'.

To quote you: 'Did this really need to be spelled out??'

This is a false debate IMHO.

.

A live in the studio version without overdubs that ends on a record is considered a studio track.

.

The Undertaker was not a rehearsal, it was recorded with a record in mind.

.

And anyway any rehearsal track that eventually gets released by the artist becomes a studio track. It's hard to distinguish a rehearsal from a studio jam from a studio version. See I Would Die 4 U Extended. See Cloreen Bacon Skin. Even those rehearsals that were released online the last few years: if Prince hadn't labeled them as such we'd consider them rerecordings pure and simple.

.

So at the end of the day it comes down to that, once released a track is either a live version (with an audience) or a studio version (no audience).

.

Now as for the Bambi video then why not put the whole Undertaker video album on YT? Only, if I was the estate I wouldn't want that because it's a whole video album that could be rereleased and if you put it all on YT no one's gonna buy it. But it's their call to make, why not, sure.

Interestingly this is a common missunderstanding.

Any broadcast master, particularly those finalised on DigiBeta SP (a common 90s format), can very easily be scaled to 1080p and will be great on blu ray.

The key issue most people neglate is bitrate.

In simple terms a broadcast master will hold up very nicely at 1080p and will look great at a high bitrate. For example, this can be seen on old re-runs on TV on HD channels.

What we are seeing on the Prince YouTube channel is a massive amount of compression of both the screen size and the bitrate - which in my opinion is unnecesary.

Incidentally, what people don't realise is that to go from a broadcast master to DVD requires a massive amount of compression. So when you watch your old DVD on a 55inch TV and wonder why it looks so crap, it's because DVD can't handle the volume of data the broadcast master would have, but a blu ray would.

Sadly the source used for Gangster Glam is damaged which is evident from the tape dropout.

For December 1999, when Warners re-issued 1999 as a single, (we) (when I was there) had a new broadcast 'dub' made from the master for distribution to broascasters. The end result was stunning!!!

I just hope one day all the videos get this treatment - and I'd certainly put my hand up to be involved!

lol

You see, a well thought out, lucid, pleasant and respectable response to a question posed by someone wanting information. Thanks darkroman! Here's proof that one can provide info without being mean and abrasive when asked. nod

The best bit is that darkroman posted the original comment to which Bart took offense.

it is very odd to argue over what songs are or are not studio vs live vs rehearsals.

I would not call Bambi from the "undertaker" film a Video anymore than "computer blue" from Purple Rain or "Hot Thing" from SOTT. but I would not be mad if they released them as such!

As to a rehearsal vs a live? Well it was not released as such but the most often traded version of "electric intercourse" was a rehearsal and if some version of that would have been released as opposed to what was we would accept that as the studio version. "Purple Rain" is pretty much a live song (audience and all)

But anyway: I hope they get creative with releasing videos and clips!

Right, Bambi was not a video at all outside of Prince releasing a rehearsal himself online but def not a Warner Brothers release. Not every single had a video.

The band version of I Wanna Be Your Lover though would be more valid.

I disagree that 'The Undertaker' film clips couldn't qualify as music videos.
.
Clips from Three Chains of Gold' have been employed as official music videos; in fact for some of the songs being put up by the Prince YT account aren't accompanied by a 'proper' video at all ('Question of U'; 'Pink Cashmere').

.
I do agree with Databank that showing every song / clip from the various films Prince made might mean a potential loss of income (because why buy an official release if it can just be seen on YT). To that end, I think showing one or two clips (for want of a better word) from these films would be a way to whet the viewer's appetite and tempt them to shell out for the whole thing. And to THAT end, I say, 'Put up the 1993 Bambi'! biggrin
.
In the meantime, who owns the official 'Empty Room' video? I'd love to see that in better quality!

NPG / Estate owns Empty Room since it was released on his website independently.

I guess technically since 3 Chains for example was an official video collection its collection is valid as a promotional video release. As well as anything from Prince live since it is a Warner Brothers release:

The Sacrifice Of Victor artwork

Too bad the Beautiful Experience TV Film will not see a release on Youtube since Warners had nothing to do with the films but still sold the Come album (Race for example is a promotional video attatched to the film).

Hmmm...At the 02 exhibition, there is a suit with writing on the lapels (think they're PC lyrics, so far as I can recall but might be wrong)...ANYWAY, I've never seen it worn anywhere BUT the signage next to it says Prince wore it for the filming of the 'Pink Cashmere video' - so you tell me.
