Real or not?

Andre Crabshaw 3rd. Is this a real person or a dig at someone? I've been wondering for years.

Is that sourced?

It's something that's been said many times but I cannot find any source other than past threads, which makes it sounds like something a fan once made-up and that's been repeated so many times that it's become "true" (something that unfortunately happens regularly on the Org).

.

And yet you couldn't manage to get the name right, and you didn't bother googling it.

Thank you for bringing such joy to an otherwise dull thread. You must feel really good about yourself!

FWIW I googled "Andre Crabshaw 3rd" and nothing came up.........except a lawsuit Prince filed one time! Which had absolutely nothing to do with Andre Cymone.

The suit was "Controversy Music v. down Under Pub Tyler, Inc." filed in a US District Court in Texas back on 2007. The particular document that came up was a Mtion for Summary Judgement filed by Controversy Music. The dispute revolved around the public performance of five songs - "Kiss"; "1999"; "Give it to Me Baby"; "Wild Thing" and "Shooting Star". The publishing companies and record companies for the artists other than Prince were also plaintiffs in this suit.

But, as it usually happens, the suit was actually initiated by ASCAP. It seems the pub was playing music subject to ASCAP agreement but wasn't actually a member of ASCAP. Despite ASCAP's repeated attempts to get the pub to join ASCAP, they didn't. So they got sued.

The name "Andre" shows up as one of the defendants. The name "Crabshaw" actually shows up as as the plaintiff case used to support Prince's Motion for Summary Judgement, which was granted. The pub lost $25K plus attorney's fees.

More FWIW, I googled "Andre Crabshaw 3rd Prince" and - along with several sites about foreign princes - got one thread from 2006 here on the Org which did contain a reference to Andre Cymone, along with several other incorrect references. But what it DIDN'T contain was more sunshine from the Org's Resident Spreader Of Joy And Good Feelings.

So, as a public service, I am happy to link THAT thread!

I was all...Crabshaw? confuse

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
