It’s only ONE Purple Rain...

Nobody is doubting his work rate. But you have to understand that not everyone likes EVERYTHING that Prince released. It stands to reason that if you record a thousand songs there's bound to be a dud or two in there. Purple And Gold being just one example.

Seriously, you need to chill out a little, you're gonna give yourself an embolism.

We're all here because we like and respect Prince. But no-one is going to like everything he did, or necessarily the same work of his that others like. Read any post on the org to see that.

This weird, unflagging defence of everything Prince did isn't healthy. You sound like that guy on here who used to proclaim everything Prince did a 'Masterpiece'. Maybe you're the same person using another handle, I don't know.

But regardless, Prince made music that was successful, and some that was less successful (both commercially, and creatively).

And his name isn't 'Prince(r.i.p.)'. You don't need to state that every time you mention his name. The man died, we all know it, and we all wish it wasn't so... doesn't change anything.

Rave In2 is showing as a new release, as in released 29th Jan 2019 on amazon music.

Seems odd as been there since about August.

This is why I'll wait for black vinyl versions if those are ever released later. Making every new vinyl release purple is lazy and shows no regard for the respective album cover art.

I do believe though, that most of those releases are aimed at hardcore fans and created with consideration toward them. Prince's Estate seems to be willfully ignoring Prince's core fanbase and as of yet, has not really geared a single release to their desires and needs.

I have serious faith in WBR with this new 1999 deluxe package they're currently working on. With the last Piano & Microphone 1983 project and how it was handled. I now have faith in them that they will do right by Prince's(R.I.P.) fans & legacy.

[Edited 1/12/19 11:23am]

Well can WBR get a move on before I transition? This is not an a critisim or to start an argument. How and Why do think P&M 1983 was handled properly? As I see, this was already a heavily bootlegged recording, the orginal tape was found and remastered and released. No sure what WBR did after that, the really didn't promote it either.

Rave WAS NOT garbage! Prince(r.i.p.)NEVER released garbage! Don’t EVER disrespect Prince’s(r.i.p.) legacy in that way again! mad

Garbarge is harsh. Sorry. For me, I was disappointed in the musical direction with this particular piece of work. There is a gem or 2 here for sure. Any Prince will admit there is songs/albums they don't like. Have seen the comments for Animal Kingdom and Purple and Gold?

I will be honest, i listened to RC once and that was it. Couldn't get into it. It's been over 17 years now. D&P is a pop album, Prince got out of that business years before that.

Strongly disagree. There is some great music on these albums. I personally find both albums highly listenable enjoyable albums.

.

Yes, 'Rave' has some truly awesome tracks ("Man o War" and "I Love U But..." are stonecold classics). As a whole it's uneven, but it still kicks the crap out of 'Musicology' and '3121,' to name but two inferior albums.

Not crazy about the RAVE album and time has not changed my feel for it. But the thing is that it was a attempt at being "Commercial" using Eve and Crow and Stefani and as far as selling units it did about the same number that Emancipation did granted that is 3 discs higher price, but for the amount of PR he did on Emancipation it had to be a huge let down it was not a mega seller, Prince was on that same type of number from Gold to Emacnipation and Rave all doing 500,000 units.

Emancipation was not a "BIG" MEGA seller because the record label EMI folded before the promotion of it was complete. But it still went DOUBLE PLATINUM! I actually attended the double platinum "Emancipation" party. I'd say that's a HUGE success for a brand new independent artist like Prince(r.i.p) had become.

Okay, but let's be fair here (and I love Emancipation): It really sold a 1/3 of what it was awarded. Each of those disks counts as one, not the whole album. (You know this, others may not.) So if Emancipation sold 300,000 copies, it would register as 900,000 because each disk counts as its own tally. Same goes for 1999, if it sold 1,000,000 copies, it would count at double platinum since each LP counts as its own sale; they're not lumped together.

Prince bragged that Emancipation shipped platinum or double platinum out of the gate. It really had 1/3 of that. I thought I read 350K preorders (which may have be wrong) to ship. BUT 350,000 x 3 = 1,050,000 aka platinum. WOOO. PLATINUM! - Ehhh, wrong. He sold 3 disks, not 3x the albums.

This experience will cover courtship, sex, commitment, fetishes, loneliness, vindication, love, and hate.

They did not count 1999 for a double album, 1999 sales stand at over 5 million in USA.

You are right about Emancipation though. Emancipation sold just a little over 600,000 in USA but was certified 2x Platinum by RIAA.

To be fair, the official rule is that albums released after or in 1982, the year of release of the CD, must be counted at 2 disc if their lengthy is over 100 min.
.
So, of course, 1999, whose lenght is 75 minutes, is not eligible.
.
In the same way, the Lotus Flower 3 cd set should have been certified at least 1*Platinum, or each of them certified Gold.

And this was done deliberately so by Prince. He learned this from MJ's HIStory.

Years later record shops were still being offered Emancipation at a price point of mere cents; even selling it for €1 or so would gain a profit. Most still refused because nobody would buy it.

Funny you should mention that because I bought Emancipation about 5 years ago for the grand total of €4.99 in Tower Records here in Dublin. So it definitely seems like even by 2014, record shops still had surplus stock. Tower Records routinely charge almost twice the RRP for new albums and DVDs so the fact that they were selling a rare, 3 disc Prince album for next to nothing says a lot.

If they're gonna do vinyl the Rave one needs to be blue, TGE gold, Parade white on one side and black on the other, SoTT peach/black, Lovesexy pink..

Making everything purple shows a stunning lack of imagination.

I dunno what you do with GB, D&P or ATWIAD

I'll go with yellow for D&P. That was definitely the color for that period.

Stop giving them ideas about producing shitty coloured vinyl!

Dammit!

Vinyl needs to be black every time!

It's the playing surface... it has to be primed to play the best possible - therefore black!

No one ever tried to make the undersides of CDs multicolored, or the tape in a cassette!

Black black black is the new black when it comes to vinyl.

lol lol

.

Vinyl can be any color (but you can't have one side be a different color from the other side). Only picture discs are an issue, and glow-in-the-dark vinyl. And mixing colors can also be somewhat of an issue. https://lp.reverb.com/art...the-others . Then again: https://forums.stevehoffm...ck.505037/ .

.

But the default color of vinyl is actually see-through.
