Is there some source of views on YouTube that would end after the first week?

Ok thanks for the info, however are you trying to imply something?? lol

Don't forget Purple Rain is one of the biggest selling albums of all time, so if you're implying by anyway that Originals is seling better than PR, you know that is not true at all.

That's because Purple Rain already sold over 25 million world wide... lol

The Deluxe edition actually had great 1st week world wide sales, believe it sold 93-95k in it's first week.

And what does that mean?? That means it should have sold tons more, lets face it this is where his sales will be from now on. Sorry to break the news to all but if his "new album" at the time of his death "Phase 2" saw no spike in sales do you really think the interest in anything is there now? Originals is not a big seller because it is selling a bit to his base, and sorry to say this is where any remasters will also, in fact I think remasters if done for albums like Parade or 1999 will sell even less, Piano and a Mic was here and gone and SO will anything new if ever released. Not sure what world people are living in where Prince is going to sell Gold again, you are all living in the days when music sold. Time to let it go.

Yes, thanks! I don't get the obsession with all this SELLING, SELLING, SELLING talk. We all know that is NOT what Prince was about! Perhaps the Estate could have done a better job with release and promtional videos, yes, but it is all going to appeal more to the hardcore fans anyway. That happends alot with may artists who are no longer with us. Doesn't mean that their legacy will be forgotten. Just enjoy! cool

Love is God, God is love, girls and boys love God above.
RIP Sweet Prince

Relax, I just posted Prince numbers. I didn't imply anything (?!)
.
That is to say, the #200 sold 29.000 and TVBO is not in the top 200. So it means it sold less than 29.000.
.
This also the first time I see a NEW Prince release in the US top 200 of the year since what...Lotus Flower ? .

In Netherlands, Originals rentered at #14 the week of the release of the deluxe edition.
It peaked at #3 in the vinyl charts.
But wasn't the week after in the top 33 vinyl...ouch.
.
In Switzerland, the chartrun is more stable :
9-41-99-98-24...the 6th week hasn't been released yet.
.
In Belgium, take a look at that extraordinary run :
7-16-22-35-8-27

I don’t quite get the obsession with sales figures, tbh. Prince didn’t really light the charts on fire when he was still with us...and compared to compilations of other legacy artists, like for example Bowie’s recent box sets, did it really do that bad?

I’m sure the estate knows that they’re catering to us die hards here, right? Right?!?
Expecting a Prince album comprised of outtakes and demos to sell in the millions in 2019 is delusional...the album is doing fine for what it is.

Many years ago the charts used to be a retail chart.

The results of the mid-week chart would allow retailers to guage what stock to purchase in readiness for consumer demand.

But now the charts are meaningless. They have no value to anyone.

Oddly the rules of chart eligibility seem to change on a weekly basis!

Many artists can have very financially successful careers and never chart as there are many ways to manage a successful career in music.

cool

And what is the value of numerous topics here, always the same rehashing, " Is emancipation 2 disc long?" " What is your favourite disc of Emancipation?", "1999 deluxe" etc.?

They should release a cassette version of Originals, they could easily sell one or two thousand copies more.

Best selling albums of 2019 in the USA (until week 31):
.
#19 : Madonna/Madame X (112.000)
#25 : Diamonds- Elton John's (105.000)
#55 : Aladdin soundtrack (70.000)
#96 : Thriller -MJ (50.000)
#99 : Originals -Prince (49.000)
.
Really not so bad for Originals... compared to Madonna that benefited from a huge promotion, Elton John that had a movie released about him, Aladdin is a Disney movie that made one billion dollars....
.
And to be honest, about 10.000 copies out of the 49k are the deluxe edition that contains in fact two times the album.
So it s like it sold 59.000 copies.

Personally, I want to see good sales figures as this increases the chances of future releases. So they suddenly take on an importance they didn't have when P was with us.

Looking at the 49000 sales through even rosier spectacles, Originals is the 42nd best physical seller of projects released this year in the US and its only been out since mid June.

I wonder what impact the pricing has had on that. The standard black two-LP is £32.99 in HMV if I remember correctly. Compared to, say, Art Official Age (which is also a black two-LP) for £18.99 or even SOTT for £24.99, it seems a little excessive to me even before I get to the deluxe edition pricing... it's an album of good pop songs that were already released but on this occasion with Prince's voice, not the sodding second coming of Purple Rain or SOTT. lol

Yes, the vinyl/deluxe edition are ridiculously too expensive.
19$ would have been a wiser price.
The estate/WB must have thought that Prince fans would buy it for 20 or 30 bucks anyway.
In the contrary, casual consumers won't have buy it even for 15 or 20 bucks.

Belgium chartrun for Originals seem to be the best outside the US :
.
7-16-22-35-8-27-56-45 (8 weeks).
.
Really not bad, compared to other Prince chartrun In this country.
Of course sales of older albumsare not comparable anymore...But still, in term of chartrun, for an album that produced no single/hits, and that is so expensive to buy, this is amazingly good.
.
Or maybe Holly Rock is played on radio there?

For the record, here is the chartrun for Piano...1983:
.
4-14-26-43-92-74-65-125-168-173-114-124-121-104-174 (15 weeks)

#99 : Originals - Prince (51.000)
.
If the Netflix documentary would have been released this summer and if NC2U wouldn't have been wasted last year, it would have doubled this number.

Am I wrong or is 9 weeks on the charts better than a Prince album has done in a while?
