Just 52k...I really wonder if there is any worth releasting physically. I love them still but at some point, someone is going to decide not to bother. They'll opt for digital only. i paid more for my 24 bit download via HD Tracks than the CD.

Thé expensive deluxe edition contains two times the same album, and it sold like 12/15k copies in the US.
So you can say that it sold in fact 65k copies

I think you can double that number worldwide.
So it s fair to say it probably sold 105k copies worldwide.

260,000.00 in profit (5 bucks each after costs). How's that a loss?

How do you know that the profit is $5/unit? Are we deducting all costs? Fixed and variable?the cost to print and distribute the album, the marketing, consultants, and other costs directly related to the album?

That's because its the most recent release...

Look in the longrun and all those previous Prince albums whichever ones you are talking about still sold much more than Originals in total sales...

Lotus Flower ended #99 best selling album in the USA for the year 2009, with about 500.000 copies sold.
.
Ten years later, the #99 album sells 10 times less.
.
You can't compare today sales with sales from 10, 5 or even 2 years ago. The market is not the same anymore. Originals would have been gold with its sales chartrun 10 years ago.
.
But the current sales chart of Originals, that used to be the Billboard 200, is far better than recent albums (Hit and run 1 and 2, AOA, Plectrum) or even older albums ( Lovesexy, Come, Chaos and Disorder, the vault, etc.).
.
Once again, they missed a great opportunity with NC2U, that could have made great publicity for Originals, if it were the lead single.

It's a shame his streaming numbers are so low, his streaming literally gives him a few thousand sale equivalents, if his streaming numbers went up that would be a great thing, but obviously he is not around anymore and came way too late to the social media and streaming age.

Because it's cheap to make the product and not much remastering. I assure you that if they didn't make money-they wouldn't release them.

In the total I give, it s only sales, no streaming added.
But yes, in the "real" BB200, Prince is handicapped because of low streaming.
A situation I predicted long ago, remember?
.
Prince didn't embrace the streaming audio/video when he should have, so now most people forgot he even existed. Contrary to Queen, for instance.
.
Without huge promotion he couldn't compete with younger acts.
Nevertheless, I think Madonna sales and average streaming are even lower than Prince's today.
.
NC2U made 9 millions views on YouTube in less than one year and a half. If it had been released in the Same time as Originals, it would have made a bigger impact that's for sure.
.
Holly Rock is a good video, but to make an impact, it has to be played on radio, TV...And for that WB have to pay.

I m sure Gigolos Get Lonely Too could still be played on most radio formats today. Maybe a remix could help to attract a younger audience

Best selling albums in the USA in 2019 so far (week 35) :
.
#130 : Purple Rain (49.000)
#104 : Originals (54.000)
.
Will be exciting to see how 1999 perform, surely at least 50.000 copies until week 52.
.
That also means there won't be anymore music videos to promote Originals.

.
Too bad, another animated video would have been cool.

Originals is #98 for its 12th week in the Belgium top 200. It s gaining in fact +60 positions.
That s an overall very good chartrun,
Maybe the announce of 1999 deluxe reassured some fans who expressed their joy in buying Originals...
.
We LL see if this trend is confirmed in the US, where I doubt it will appear for a 13th week in the top 100 sales...

Yes, in 2018 Prince sold 250.000 copies worldwide.
.
With 1999, Originals, PR, and the numerous greatest hits and Sony re-releases, he could top that number in the US alone this year.

Billboard top current albums sales :
#96 (-6) Originals (13th week)
.
Billboard rnb sales :
#7 (-2) Originals (13th week)
.
Seems that rnb doesn't sell anymore this day!
With its peak at #1 in this chart, Originals will surely be one of ten best selling rnb albums of the year according to Billboard.
